Read All About It! Using Civic Journalism as a Service-Learning Strategy

The concept of civic journalism is enjoying new prominence in the commercial news media. Broadly defined as newsmaking that creates a “support system for public life” by generating public dialogue (Rosen 1993), civic journalism may offer a partial solution to the lack of civic engagement affecting the country at the local and national levels. In the field of education, civic journalism may also be used as a learning strategy that combines teaching communication skills with community service.
