ABSTRACT

Technology is producing disruptive innovations. College readiness is a well-intentioned pursuit, and job preparedness is a murky concept. New frameworks and copious examples are offered for innovative retention strategies such as residence hall and orientation programs. By moving the discussion to broader institutional levels, this compilation provides community college administrators with advice on their organizational culture and institutional outcomes as well. Acknowledging the silo effect of departments in many community colleges, the contributors provide persuasive arguments for eliminating this effect in student and academic affairs departments. The convincing strategies presented by the authors suggest that departments that collaborate to strengthen the academic and social engagement of students will enhance today’s student success agendas in community colleges. The chapter also presents some closing thoughts on the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book.
