ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the latter definition of technological literacy given its inclusion of knowledge and application of technology, both key components for student success at community colleges. The use of a specific definition allows for review of written policies that address technological literacy and consideration for how these measures can be integrated throughout the community college curriculum. One challenge to achieving the integration of technology across the community college curriculum is the technological competency of community college faculty. For community college students, technological literacy is a crucial component in the transition to a four-year institution and the workplace. Community colleges can integrate technology into the curriculum by expanding general education requirements to include technological competencies and by using technology in classrooms to foster technological expertise. To develop technological fluency in students, community college leaders must identify and define technological competencies and work with faculty to ensure technology integration across the curriculum.
