ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the institutional context of faculty writing interventions in general, as well as lays out the objectives and activities of the Jumpstart Writing Program in particular so that faculties will be familiar with steps it could take to initiate such a program on their campus. It offers a palette of possibilities derived from the current research on “structured faculty writing interventions.” The chapter addresses the evidence that such initiatives actually impact faculty writing practices. It recommends that universities support the development of structured interventions for their staff in order to increase their writing for publication. A regular, ongoing arrangement seems to be most beneficial, with a format that can be adapted to meet the needs of the attendees. The chapter explains the PSU Jumpstart Writing Program itself. It explains the program’s objectives, how did the literature inform the program’s structure and the specific program features.
