ABSTRACT

There are many factors at the origin of overweight and obesity in adults. This chapter will describe them and the use of hypnosis as a support process to achieve weight loss and stay at a healthy weight. The universal issues that cause the appearance and maintenance of overweight will be delineated along with the hypnosis techniques to address those issues. The techniques are designed to lead people to change their relationship with food, their body, and their emotions, and to be able to enjoy and experience tranquility and improve their relationship with their environment.

The author presents a model of group work with hypnosis and its advantages, developed over many years, which has resulted in a manual for professionals in health care. The importance of including hypnosis and self-hypnosis will be discussed, as well as the importance of collaborating with other specialists, e.g., nutritionists, to design appropriate dietary plans and physicians, to address any health problems.
