ABSTRACT

Major surgeries are on the rise around the world. Blood loss during these surgeries can have a significant impact on patient recovery. In this section, the physiological basis of bleeding and hemostasis, the possible complications and consequences of blood loss, and the factors that influence the amount of bleeding are explained. A summary of what we know about the relationship between bleeding and the mental state is given. A literature review is presented, showing that other alternative techniques, hypnosis, and suggestion techniques can be used to complement traditional methods in decreasing blood loss during surgeries. Further research possibilities are also outlined.
