ABSTRACT

Self-care is one essential element of personal well-being. Clinicians, teachers, and other helping professionals may neglect their self-care as they focus on caring for others. Eventually, this neglect can lead to negative consequences. Clinically addressing these negative consequences and preventing future problems involve teaching helping professionals new skills for balancing the care of others with care for the self. Yapko's “Process-Oriented Hypnosis” takes the benefits of hypnosis and strategically focuses them on helping people shift patterns of perception and action in ways that better meet their goals. This chapter describes and demonstrates how the author uses Process-Oriented Hypnosis clinically when helping professionals to adapt their self-care and enhance their well-being.
