ABSTRACT

Education and training are necessary for continued growth of the field of clinical hypnosis. Education, training, and certification of qualified practitioners enhance the quality of clinical care, support the application of evidence-based treatment, and encourage the use of state-of-the-art advances in hypnotically based interventions. This chapter reviews the history of established standards for education and training in clinical hypnosis, introduces critical perspectives encouraging alternative approaches to hypnosis education, and identifies competencies necessary for utilizing clinical hypnosis in professional practice. The chapter closes by examining the future of hypnosis education, with discussions of virtual hypnosis treatment, virtual and hybrid training delivery, the emergence of online hypnosis resources, apps, and other digital resources, and the availability of hypnosis training for multiple disciplines in integrative healthcare settings.
