ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces Provisional Multimodal Research (PMR) as a research methodology designed for educators to document the construction of digital artefacts. A current and continually evolving example of PMR can be seen in a longitudinal research project about the integration of STEM education in Australian primary schools. This research is called the SILO project and it is embodied in a dedicated website (https://silo.edu.au/ ). The theoretical heritage for PMR is from the late Seymour Papert and his MIT team who developed constructionism. This chapter will demonstrate how constructionist principles can be applied at the methodological level, particularly when working with digital artefacts which embody the learning.
