ABSTRACT

This paper underlines the central argument that Latin America has a singular types of capitalist modernity in contrast to Žižek’s proposal for a universal avant-garde European model. The idea that Latin America has a modernization process, different from the European one, is based on Bolívar Echeverría’s argument about the Baroque Ethos. It also analyzes the logic of the Andean rebellions in contrast with the abstract model of the French Revolution. In conclusion, a new interpretative dynamic is proposed, rather than a closed formula of analysis, in which the dialectic of local struggles, together with global revolutionary movements, complement and support each other and it is not only a question of a metaphysics whose base is Europe.
