ABSTRACT

This study examines the significance of the International North−South Transport Corridor (INSTC) within India’s “Connect Central Asia” policy. In this study, the relevance of Central Asia is reflected by New Delhi’s policies towards this region. Furthermore, it deliberates on how INSTC may affect the relations between Central Asian countries and India. In this context, the study’s central question is as follows: What would be the contribution of INSTC to India’s Central Asian policies? The policies of New Delhi towards the region include several parameters for developing trade with Central Asian countries. However, the need for different transportation networks in the area, the lack of direct road access between India and Central Asia, and Chinese expansionist policies towards the trade routes have influenced India to seek new alternative ones.
