ABSTRACT

Economic corridors are crucial tools for enhancing regional connectivity and enabling nations and regions to cooperate more extensively. It is crucial to consider India’s strategy in the context of geopolitical realities that are always shifting and contain a variety of recently developed security dangers, as well as enduring problems, that have an effect on the domestic and foreign policies of global players. Following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which is likely to damage Moscow and decrease its ability to strategically balance Beijing, India has a greater interest in reducing China’s control over the global system. This chapter aims to discuss theoretically the initiatives of INSTC and Chabahar Port, the developments so far and challenges they face. It also elaborates on how these initiatives of India can potentially be an alternative to China’s Belt and Road Initiative. The study concludes that the economic corridors must be understood in the context of a changing international order that involves key players and forces them to modify their policies in response to the geostrategic environment that is transforming rapidly.
