ABSTRACT

International transport corridors are considered influential political, economic, and strategic factors. One of the most essential corridors is the North−South International Corridor, a cheap and safe international route. Since the Russia-Ukraine war that broke out in 2022, the importance of this corridor, owing to the weakening of the transport infrastructure in Europe, rising costs of transportation, and the EU sanctions against Russia, increased. At the same time, the position of the members of this corridor was also changed. It seems that owing to the events that have occurred at the domestic, regional and international levels, Iran’s position in this corridor is changing. The authors hypothesise that the importance of Iran’s transit position has also increased with the increasing role of the NSTC in light of international events, especially the Ukraine war. This descriptive-analytical investigation of Iran’s current role in this corridor confirms this hypothesis.
