ABSTRACT

In this chapter, I share the story of my journey as a sustainability educator over the last decade. Teaching sustainability-related topics around the world has been an enriching and rewarding experience. Issues and challenges of teaching in developed and developing economies are quite distinct and different. Students in developed countries are more engaged and aware when compared to their peers in developing countries who are cynical about the future and constrained due to their financial conditions. Beyond teaching, several structural and systemic issues plague the teaching of sustainability in emerging markets. As individual faculty members we still have the toolkit to work toward inside-out changes, leveraging our course, classroom, and system.
