ABSTRACT

Changing how the world creates solutions to sustainability issues require teachers to embody the change we need to see. Creating new awareness, new perspectives, and new tools needed by society that addresses the climate crisis and using this learning to act on sustainability issues, requires teachers to see, teach, and lead in new ways. This chapter presents one teacher’s experience in using personal reflection, community networking, a Sustainability Mindset, and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as critical elements in building departmental, campus-wide, and management education change. Personal examples are provided from departmental meetings, organizational changes in mission and operational partnerships, the integration of ideas from The Sustainability Mindset Principles (2021) and the UN’s SDGs as a new model for leadership, and a view that the universal challenge of protecting this planet must be addressed through the universal recognition of our mutual care for each other and all that is on this planet.
