ABSTRACT

Business and nature have more in common than we might think. Nature is engaged in synergies, ambidexterity, prioritizing resources, mergers and acquisitions, networking, strategic planning, and many other processes which we consider unique to the business world. Hence, merging these two apparently different worlds could feel awkward. However, we realized that discussing how theories, models, and perspectives we usually teach in business and management education relate to how natural ecosystems perform and survive could be truly eye-opening for students. This chapter provides insights into our motivation to dive further into the idea of bridging nature and business through sharing some marine ecosystem examples. We hope that this will encourage educators to explore the fascinating interconnected worlds between humans, nature, and business that could foster sustainable development.
