ABSTRACT

Educational research provides a valuable basis for teachers’ instructional planning and decision-making. When middle level educators ground their practice in the research base, they connect their work to a larger body of knowledge and contribute to its advancement. The authors offer an analysis of the four original research studies featured in Dialogues in Middle Level Education Research Volume 3. The studies focus on four areas of inquiry: teaching through disruptions, responsive leadership, personalized learning, and youth civic action. The authors discuss each of the four studies with an emphasis on classroom applications and implications for practice. They also make recommendations for further research related to the practice of middle level education in school settings.
