ABSTRACT
The paper “Remembering, Repeating and Working-Through” is not very long and is written in a quite straightforward manner. But an index of its importance for Freud himself is that it begins with a reminder of the changes in psychoanalytic technique over the years. One can easily imagine that Freud is, thus, announcing some innovation in this regard. As we shall see, however, the novelty in the present case is not limited to questions of technique, or perhaps we should say that, as always, Freud's reflections of technique are here again tightly linked with metapsychological novelty.
