ABSTRACT
Particular attention needs to be paid to the translation of the word Agieren, since it is central to the middle section of Freud's essay, which is focused on repetition. It has found its way into the psychoanalytic vocabulary in numerous forms derived from it: active versus passive or activity versus passivity, specific action, (actual) neurosis, act (Lacan), reaction, abreaction, etc.
