ABSTRACT
This autobiographical narrative outlines events that may be common to lifelong art educators, including raising children and developing a studio art practice while maintaining a career as an art educator. The author explains her reasons for an uncommon turn to lifelong learning through the pursuit of a doctorate and professorship later in life. The challenges and advantages of pursuing a doctorate, with age as an additional factor, are identified and discussed in conversation with current literature.
