ABSTRACT

This chapter presents details on Anganwadi Services Scheme and briefly refers to the other components. POSHAN Abhiyaan is described in depth in a separate chapter. The chapter presents details of the various components except POSHAN Abhiyaan 2017–22, which is presented as a separate chapter. Supplementary Nutrition (SN) has been an integral part of ICDS since the inception of the scheme in 1975. As per the ICDS Policy, SN is recommended to be provided as food for the specific population groups, i.e. pregnant and lactating women as well as children aged 6–59 months for at least 300 days (25 days/month) in a year. The primary objective of Nutrition and Health Education (NHE) is to address the gap in information and influence practices regarding health, nutrition and development care of children, women and families. The design flaw has been addressed to a great extent but the implementation through ICDS remains a challenge.
