ABSTRACT

It is possible to identify three poles of the colonization of the inner planet that in different phases of progress are reaching the shores of the new world carried by new ships. The first pole is linked to production and distribution in industry, consumption and the enjoyment of endocrine-disrupting chemicals (polymers) used in hundreds of products and processes. The second pole is the design and genetic manipulation through the use of DNA that is easily identifiable today, encompassing both plant and animal/human genetic maps and management. The third pole is the use of nanotechnology as a tool for exploration, intervention and transformation of the body/emotions, constituting a new form of colonization and commercialization. In the colonization of the inner planet where the transfer of the metabolic fracture to the same body/emotion is taking place as the “last” territory of conquest, the dispute and the reconstruction of those designated as individual/actor/agent/subject/author are one of the axes of the social structuring processes.

But as counter face, as the “other side” of sad passions and practices of destruction, we can verify the love, reciprocity, trust and happiness of millions of human beings who believe the claim of closed totality that has the moral, spiritual and material consequences of the expansion of capitalism on a planetary scale. In this context, this chapter seeks to draw attention to some aspects of sociology of hope as anodal part of the future of social theory. In the first place, an approximation to hopes in social theory is outlined; secondly, the importance of hope is synthesized in terms of communality; and thirdly, a proposal is made regarding a sociological view of hope. It ends by summarizing in a set of vignettes some of the axes by which a reflection on hope becomes a central axis of social theory.
