ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the experience of ABN AMRO in the field of sustainability and impact reporting. ABN AMRO is one of the leading banks in the Netherlands; with nearly 20,000 employees, it provides banking services to retail, private and business clients. The bank is recognized for its commitment to sustainability; among others, it supports the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, aims to increase the volume of its sustainability assets to more than a third of the total in 2024, and considers sustainability as a crucial aspect to attract talents. Through a review of ABN AMRO’s impact journey, this chapter provides an overview of how ABN AMRO creates value for its stakeholders, not only as a provider of banking and other financial services but also as a responsible employer and an active contributor to the society as a whole. The chapter offers examples of best practices in measuring, managing, and communicating impact to stakeholders.
