ABSTRACT
Because of the proximity of the 1939-45 war and the exceptional post-war circumstances it was not possible in the context of the 1954 review of pension funds and the economy (Bacon, Benjamin and Elphinstone, 1954) to consider historic projected employment trends. However, at the present time, over thirty years’ data and analyses are available and so it is possible to examine employment trends in the same manner as demographic trends (as in Chapter 8).
