ABSTRACT

The former British colonial territory of Northern Rhodesia became the independent Republic of Zambia on 24 October 1964, led by President Kenneth David Kaunda. The capital is at Lusaka. Zambia is a small state in economic terms and conventional power, but she is also a new state which is relatively inexperienced in world politics. Six years is a short period over which to study Zambia’s foreign policy, but the outlines have already been traced with remarkable clarity as the country has made considerable impact on African and world affairs.
