ABSTRACT

Part I has provided conceptual clarity on the impact of frontier digital technologies on the security landscape for the states. This chapter provides an initial reading of the second part, where data and its impact on military functioning are discussed. For any digital technology, data becomes one of the fundamental functionaries. To provide a greater understanding on the rapidly changing landscape of security, this chapter provides detail on how data becomes an important factor that defines power. A conceptual analysis is conducted from the perspectives of Yuval Noah Harari and Jamie Susskind. The final section of this chapter describes why and how data legislation ex ante research on data securitization is important, drawing upon the political disturbances that the data brings. It exhibits that considering all the current technological developments, digital technologies will impact society the most. The scope of this chapter covers the philosophical and conceptual understanding of data-based technologies and their impact on society and the behavior of the state.
