ABSTRACT

Film is the principal visual aid regarding this theme. There are three main categories of film concerned with warfare: war documentary, historical non-fiction and historical fiction. Films made at the time of an event provide a permanent record of what actually took place in a particular battle, photographed by newsreel cameramen who shared the same risks as the participants. The British Film Institute has a selection of original films from British, German and American sources, about the two world wars. A film which shows that war consists of more than sea, land and air actions is Odette. It tells the story of one of the heroines of the French Resistance Movement, during the German occupation. .
