ABSTRACT

The standard works, J. B. Bury, A History of Greece to the Death of Alexander the Great (Macmillan, 3rd edn, rev. R. Meiggs, 1951) and N. G. L. Hammond, A History of Greece to 322 B.C. (Oxf., 2nd edn 1967), are both mainly preoccupied with political and military history. A broader survey down to the Roman occupation is A. R. Burn, The Pelican History of Greece (Penguin, 1966), originally published as A Traveller's History of Greece (Hodder, 1965). C. E. Robinson, A History of Greece (Methuen, 9th edn 1957) is very suitable for schools.
