A useful introduction to Old Testament history is E. L. Ehrlich, A Concise History of Israel (Darton, 1963). The two standard works are M. Noth, The History of Israel (Black, rev. trans, 1960) and J. Bright, A History of Israel (SCM, 1960); the latter is being revised. Noth covers the period to A.D. 135; Bright ends at the Maccabees.
