ABSTRACT

The most important, in which many articles, mainly dealing with Britain, are reprinted, is E. M. Carus-Wilson Essays in Economic History. This series, along with its companion volume, F. Crouzet and others (eds) Essays in European Economic History, 1789-1914, is published under the auspices of the Economic History Society, which is also responsible for another continuing series, Studies in Economic History. The series consists of short, paperback, textbook surveys of specific topics; to date eight have been published. In a separate series of reprints published by Methuen, Debates in Economic History, each volume consists of about half a dozen reprinted articles and a fairly long editorial introduction to the topic under discussion; seven volumes have appeared to date. Good general textbooks on long periods of European economic history are rare.
