ABSTRACT
The most recent single-volume outline history of Italy in English is A Short History of Italy, ed. H. Hearder and D. P. Waley (Camb., 1963, pb 1966). Written originally by C. M. Ady and A. J. Whyte, the volume has been revised by the present editors and its coverage extended to the year 1960. An older alternative is L. Salvatorelli, A Concise History of Italy from Prehistoric Times (Allen & U., 1940).
