The most authoritative and comprehensive work is the History of East Africa , published by Oxford University Press. Volume i, ed. R. Oliver and G. Mathew, deals with the period up to 1895. I. ?. Kimambo and A. J. Temu (eds) A History of Tanzania and A. Roberts (ed.) Tanzania before 1900 (EAPH, 1968) are collaborative works by competent historians, which at present have no equivalents for Kenya or Uganda. Special studies of particular importance are S.
