ABSTRACT

This section is concerned with the history of transport in its more technical aspects. The general history of transport in this country was first covered in two older standard histories: E. A. Pratt, History of Inland Transport and Communication in England (David & C., n.i. 1970) and W. T. Jackman, The Development of Transportation in Modern England (Cass, 2nd edn 1962). A useful general survey of more recent date is C. E. R. Sherrington, A Hundred Years of Inland Transport, 1830-1934 (Cass, n.i. 1969).
