ABSTRACT

Any student of ancient history will find an ideal companion in A. A. M. van der Heyden and H. H. Scullard's Atlas of the Classical World. It provides a concise history with sections on artistic, social and economic developments as well as politics and military campaigns. At the end of the book, there is a brief summary of the legacy of the ancient world. Some of the older well-established textbooks are still in print, including J. H. Breasted's famous Ancient Times, available, revised and abridged by W. Hughes Jones, as A Brief History of Ancient Times. Among the more conventional textbooks is C. F. Strong's A History of Britain and the World, bk I, The Ancient and Early Medieval World. This was specifically written for the first forms of grammar schools and has a brief, chronological narrative with time charts, black and white drawings and photographs.
