ABSTRACT

Books for the primary school age-range are few in number, and it is unfortunate that K. G. Tregonning, Twenty Great Men of Asia is out of print in Britain. However, there are some useful chapters for this age-group in E. H. Dance, British and Foreign History, bk I, Europe and the Old World; e.g. China, India and the Middle East are covered for the period 1-1500 a.d. The book contains short bibliographies, source readings and very good maps. G. A. Goodban and others, China in World History and C. A. Burland, Ancient China can be recommended. Of the newer books for the secondary school, recent history is best dealt with in John Robottom's Modern China. For Malaya, a readable and well-presented textbook is E. H. Dance and G. P. Dartford, Malayan and World History. A slightly more difficult book, but still providing a lucid outline, is G. P. Dartford, A Short History of Malaya.
