ABSTRACT

The story of the exploration of the world is ideally suited to individual or group project work and there are books available on almost every aspect. Muller's World Explorer series is primarily intended for the young reader; well-spaced lines and clear type make for easy reading, and the lives of the explorers are presented as exciting adventure stories. Muller also publishes the Adventures in Geography series, which combines accurate descriptions of the expeditions of famous explorers with geographical accounts of the regions visited. The early voyages of the Irish and the Vikings are described in the books on the ancient explorers and in the general histories. The best general history is T. Sterling, The Exploration of Africa, in which there is the expected plethora of excellent pictures of all kinds and a text which follows the story from prehistoric to modern times. Richard Hall's Discovery of Africa also gives a good general history with bright illustrations.
