ABSTRACT

The film Stuart Britain is based on interior scenes filmed at the Geifrye Museum, while for a cheaper filmstrip introduction England under the Stuarts provides a broad range of subjects. The Reign by Reign filmstrip series gives a personal and general view through relics and documents and is useful for introducing the traditional syllabus, whereas The Puritan Revolution and The Bill of Rights use a thematic approach. A number of local museums have relics and mementos of the war, but the best collection of Cromwelliana is at the Cromwell Museum, Huntingdon. Two filmstrips, Life in Early Stuart Times and Life in Restoration Times consist of a series of drawings which adequately survey most social aspects. Instrumental music of the period is recorded by Julian Bream on English Lute Music, by Sylvia Kind on English Tone Paintings, Toccatas and Dances, and by the Elizabethan Consort of Viols on William Lawes, Consort Music.
