ABSTRACT

The relevant sections of the books A Sketch-map History of Britain and. Europe, 1485-1783 by G. Taylor and A Sketch-map History of Britain, 1783-1914 by I. Richards and J. A. Morris are too detailed for younger pupils and too superficial for sixth formers, but provide a useful basis for the preparation of transparencies for an overhead projector. The filmstrip George III and the Revolutionary Wars, 1760-1815 aims successfully at the O level pupil, whilst the History Study Unit, The French Revolution will be enjoyed by a much wider range of pupils. The film The Industrial Revolution in England sets the scene by an historical reconstruction of the early eighteenth-century domestic system in the woollen industry. Portraits of artists, musicians and authors are available as slides from the National Portrait Gallery or Woodmansterne, and postcards, prints and slides of paintings by such artists as Constable, Gainsborough and Reynolds are available from the National Gallery.
