ABSTRACT

Cultural context shapes human experiences including stress, trauma, and PTG. However, existing literature in this area remains sparse. Tibetan refugees are known for their rich culture and tradition; especially their devotion to the institution of Lamaism and Buddhism. Studies have indicated that Tibetan refugees’ culture provides coping resources and impetus for PTG. This chapter explores the role of cultural worldviews in shaping traumatic experiences and outcomes such as PTG by exploring evidence from Tibetan refugees.
