ABSTRACT

This chapter examines applications of vicarious resilience (VR) in clinical supervision and advocates for an integrative trauma and resilience lens. It uses principles of trauma-informed practice and trauma-informed supervision developed by Berger and Quiros (2014, 2016) and Knight (2018) to discuss the application of key trauma-informed practice to VR in clinical supervision. Specifically, it examines how to integrate VR in clinical supervision by (a) cultivating emotional safety, trustworthiness, empowerment, and collaboration; (b) identifying ways to hold and navigate both vicarious trauma (VT) and VR; and (c) examining strategies for enhancing supervision that is effective in enhancing VR, including the creation of a supervisory and organizational culture that supports it.
