ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights several ongoing challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and their families in Turkey. Different studies reported that the pandemic had negative effects on children and their routines including education. According to the latest data announced by the Ministry of National Education, there are more than 380,000 students in Turkey who need special education for reasons such as autism, attention deficit, special learning difficulties, and mental and visual impairment. However, special education students have also been away from their schools like other students since March, when the pandemic started. According to the parents and scientists, the school has an essential importance in the life of the students with special needs. This chapter sheds light into several ongoing issues faced by people in Turkey.
