ABSTRACT

In discussing production procedures for color, in noting things to avoid, or in setting up guideposts based on color experience, authors ask the reader to remember that all of these points apply equally to film production, live programs, or to commercials—color reacts in the same way, regardless of its origin or purpose. The color camera is actually three black-and-white cameras combined; performs very much like that earlier B & W unit. It is subject to the same rules and limitations. Designers and producers are always asking to look at a color swatch or a costume on-camera, but considerable experience has proven that such so-called tests are entirely meaningless. The camera will reproduce the color of the costume or the color swatch almost exactly as it appears to the eye and, therefore, testing it on the color camera is purely a waste of time.
