ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to furnish practical suggestions for the production of color motion pictures for color television, and is offered to enable production personnel—such as directors of photography, set and costume designers, etc.—to ensure a more effective translation of their skills and artistry into the final picture as received on the home television set, irrespective of whether the reception is in color or black-and-white. The procedures to be used in making color motion pictures for television are similar to those used for theatrical production, but with certain variations. As in theatrical film production, the best professional guidance, equipment and methods are to be recommended if successful results are to be obtained. From a technical standpoint, it is important to recognize certain properties of the television system that necessitate control in the making of a film print suitable for color television transmission.
