ABSTRACT

Gender equality and women’s empowerment are intertwined with each other. In order to bridge the gap of gender differences, pressing challenges like the economic crisis leading to a lack of health care, violence against women, a lack of educational facilities, an insufficiency of job opportunities, etc., need a proper solution. Inclusion and justice are not possible only by recognising the rights of women and girls. Sustainable development in any region is possible when women’s empowerment becomes a part of the continuous development process. Bihar is working tenaciously to address these pressing needs of women through the implementation of a variety of programmes to promote education, nutrition, immunisation, and safe sanitation for girls. This chapter explores the outcomes of the policies through four major development parameters for women: health, education, economic participation, and political representation.
