ABSTRACT
Over the centuries, clinical and phenomenological observations in psychopathology have created a literature that is fascinating but difficult to quantify scientifically. Because the deviations associated with psychopathology are not necessarily consistent across individuals, nor even within the same individual, conclusions based on this literature are not always dependable.
