ABSTRACT

This chapter begins by providing evidence to argue that the COVID-19 pandemic has shown little statistical relationship between both COVID-19 infections and deaths with countries’ position on the material development ladder. It focuses on the significance of sustainability issues when national agencies and international organizations address their governance. The lack of a link between Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita and COVID-19 infection deaths per million persons simply underlines the stark contrast between the expectations of concerned scholars and the reality of achieving balanced development. The general relationship between access to health and GDP per capita is positive. An illustration of four overlapping circles defines the pillars of suitability as economic development, environmental harmony, health, and socioeconomic equality. The innovation infrastructure that should be conceived henceforth should target the socioeconomic functioning of organizations for the provision of institutional support to all members of society to check the undue concentration of wealth and income among a few.
