ABSTRACT
The basic argument of the chapter is that it is a mistake – both ethical and intellectual – to think of the way tribes people look at the world and their place in it as a primitive and ‘pre-rational’ version of modern humanity's vision of their world. The tribe person's worldview is autonomous, and a proper understanding of it requires a radical shift from modernity's intellectual and ethical framework.
