ABSTRACT
This contribution offers a helicopter view of the connection between music and politics, in particular as expressed through song lyrics. It juxtaposes two different roles, patronage and protest, which seemingly coexist in terms of musical compositions. In this respect, both anti-establishment themes and pro-establishment ideas are expressed through music and song.
