ABSTRACT
William Shakespeare’s works cannot be divorced either from the societal factors or from the political context in which they were conceived. Understanding the political context becomes fundamental to understanding Shakespeare himself. An equally interesting observation is that, despite being shaped by a particular worldview, Shakespeare’s plays often problematise or go beyond that context as they grapple with fundamental problems of human nature.
