A Narrative of Major Political Aspects in Twentieth-Century Maltese Literature

The author maintains that Maltese authors envisaged Malta as a small nation-state well before this became a reality. In addition, Maltese authors had begun to question Maltese identity following political independence. They did so with reference to previously established cultural, political, linguistic and religious norms. In recent years, such questions on identity tend to focus more on personal and sexual identities.
